In early 2022, I met with creative professionals in Ukraine regarding a project when the Russian invasion began. From one day to the next, I lost all communication with them and only 4 weeks later did I regain contact. The had fled their studio in Kharkiv, on the border with Russia.
I decided to support our Ukrainian friends by creating a short documentary providing a personal account, outside the infleunce of the news media. We did this over Zoom and I arranged for them to send me personal iphone footage of what they’d witnessed. The result was an intimate and personal account of events from a purely personal perspective.
The full-length film and highlights trailer attracted high viewing figures on YouTube, as did snippets produced for Tiktok and Instagram reels. I am proud to have helped promote the plight of Ukrainians in a small way in the face of such adversity.
